Derzeit wird die Initiative von Institutionen mit globaler Reichweite sowie durch lokale Partner gesponsert. Für die Umsetzung von IYGU ist ein breites Netzwerk von Organisationen notwendig, welches intensiv zusammenarbeitet. In IYGU werden wissenschaftliche Akteure aus unterschiedlichsten Disziplinen aus den Geistes-, Sozial- und Naturwissenschaften zusammengebracht.
