The 4th Annual Conference 2016
(Taihu, China)

World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) is a high-level unofficial international cultural forum with strong support from Chinese government. It was founded in March 2008. This organization embraces the whole world. To offer an open, inclusive, diversified and high-level dialogue platform for cultural exchanges, it invites people from all over the world to discuss the strategies for dialogue and cooperation between different civilizations.

The Fourth Annual Conference of the World Cultural Forum, held in Macao from 7 to 9 June 2016, had the theme “Join Hands for a Human Destiny Community”. IYGU 2016 and its founding partner, the International Council for Philosophy and the Human Sciences (CIPSH), were invited to begin an ongoing collaboration. As the major contribution the IYGU was presented by Benno Werlen in the Plenary Session on “The International Year of Global Understanding and Human Destiny Community: Opening up the New Era of Building Jointly Community of Common Human Destiny”. The presentation addressed the ways in which we inhabit an increasingly globalized world in the following. The ways in which we live with, and shape nature are determined by societies and cultures. They also influence how we perceive the global consequences of our everyday actions.

In a special event CIPSH Secretary-General Prof Luiz Oosterbeek and IYGU Executive Director Prof Benno Werlen were appointed as members of the World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China).

World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) is a national non-governmental organization, which has been founded following Boao Forum for Asia and consulting the mode and experiences of the World Economic Forum to promote development of the Chinese culture and cross-cultural communications between China and foreign countries, under the concern of the leaders of the Central Government and high regard and great support of the State Council, the Publicity Department of CCCPC, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, local governments and large-scale enterprises. It is the first cultural community established independently and given FORUM as the name of the organization in our country. Chairman of World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) is Yan Zhaozhu (Chinese famous literary theorist, former director of cultural studies of the CPC Central Policy Research Office). Chinese honorary presidents of the Forum are Zhang Meiying and Sun Jiazheng (Vice-chairperson of the 11th CPPCC of PRC). Foreign honorary Presidents of the Forum are Romano Prodi (former Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy), Jean-Pierre Raffarin (former Prime Minister of the French Republic), Megawati Sukarnoputri (former President of the Republic of Indonesia) and Paul Edgar Philippe Martin (former Prime Minister of Canada).

The Proposal 

The famous literature theorist, esthetician and former director of the Cultural Research Department of the Policy Research Office of CCCPC, Yan Zhaozhu has been engaged in research and management in the fields of culture and ideology for a long time. He has profoundly studied and driven forward the development of the cultural cause and cultural industry of our country. Mr. Yan Zhaozhu said, „We should not manage a one-off forum. We should set up a united, capable and high-efficient team to manage the Forum in a long period. We should not hold a forum once and then dismiss it. We should use the mode and experiences of the World Economic Forum and Boao Forum for Asia for reference which enjoy a high prestige in the world and found an international and national non-governmental community organization which is scholarly, non-official, nonprofit, regular and has a fixed address and which is given the name of the place where the forum is located.“  He suggested that China Federation of Literary and Art Circle should be the operative unit in charge. He proposed that World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) should be prepared to set up as a non-governmental organization in the light of this consideration; the forum should be managed well and in broad scope and it should become a national forum impacting the world. In this way, it can be helpful for us to promote the development of the cultural cause and cultural industry, take full advantages of the cultural and academic circles, facilitate cross-cultural communications between China and foreign countries, enhance the national construction of the cultural soft power, and carry out the strategies of the central government.

The Significance 

World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) , emerging as a national non-governmental community organization, will integrate and make use of the resources such as person of talent and institutions etc., form a great platform of cross-cultural communications of the East and the West with various cultural activities, study and spread excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation, and promote the construction of a harmonious world. The establishment of World Cultural Forum(Taihu, China) has upgraded the thinking patterns of the Chinese cultural development, and linked them with the development of the international situations of politics, economics, technology and culture tightly to explore new ways to set up a great platform of international and national cultural development, which will facilitate the Chinese cultural development as well.

The Purpose

World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China) is oriented to an academic, non-official, nonprofit, regular, fixedly addressed international and national non-governmental community organization. Its aim is, taking china as the standpoint, to commit itself to the historical inheriting and modern development of the Chinese traditional culture, promote communications and dialogues between the Chinese culture and world cultures, build an open, multiplex, tolerant character of national and international cultural forum through providing the government, enterprises and academic circles with a platform and mechanism of high-level dialogues on the development of the Chinese culture and world cultures, and make contributions to the building of harmonious cultures, harmonious societies and a harmonious world.
